Orchha Chatrries

Chatrries of Orccha Palace Fort

There are fourteen Chatrries or memorials to the rulers of Orchha grouped along the kanchan ghat of the river Betwa. The 14 Chattries were constructed as a mark of respect for the imperial blue blood of the mighty rulers of Bundelkhand dynasty. Build in Indo-Mughal style, these three storey buildings are open to all sides and have nicely designed tops – domes or pinnacles. Most of the cenotaph is in a single compound with similar plans, except the ones seen on the extreme left. This one is build in memory of King Bir Singh Deo(1605-27) whose rule is considered as the golden age of Orchha

Picturesquely poised on the banks of a beautiful river Betwa, Chhatris in Orchha have a mesmerizing appeal. The royal tombs of Maharajas, Chhatris are placed on an elevated platform and is supported by pillars.

The domes of the cenotaphs are painted marvelously, which gives it an enchanting look. The magnificence of the Chhatris can be best viewed from the narrow bridge, where one can see the full reflection of the amazing structure on the cool river water. A remnant of the glorious rules of the Bundela dynasty, Chhatris with its magical charm allures people through centuries.
